Just a good quote

My day planner quote for this week:

Whatever you want in life, other people are going to want it too. Believe in yourself enough to accept the idea that you have an equal right to it.

Just call me Ginger

I liken being a student at an online school to this quote: [About Fred Astaire] "Sure he was great, but don't forget Ginger Rogers did everything he did backwards . . . and in high heels!" -- Bob Thaves

My degree is the same as those who attend brick and mortar schools- it will get me the same jobs, it qualifies me for the same privledges. But that is where the similarities end. In addition to teaching myself the concepts instead of merely sitting in a lecture hall absorbing the material, the course work is more difficult. This is because online schools are stuck with the burden of proving that they are legitimate institutions and not just diploma mills. Every single piece of work that I turn in gets run through a search engine that tells the prof if I have plaigerized my work. To add insult to injury, we then have to defend our degrees to others because while online programs are becoming more common there are still people out there that think that our degree programs are a cake walk because they are stuck in the stone ages!!!

The lesson of the five balls

This was included in Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas and I thought the message might be helpful to others:

Imagine life is a game in which you are juggling five balls. The balls are called work, family, health, friends, and integrity. And you're keeping all of them in the air. But one day you finally come to understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. The other four balls- family, health, friends, and integrity- are made of glass. If you drop one of these, it will be irrevocally scuffed, nicked, perhaps even shattered. And once you truly understand the lesson of the five balls, you will have the beginings of balance in your life.

The News- Almost Spring!!! Edition

Yes I skipped a week. Or two. My deepest apologies and just a warning: it may happen again. So here's the scoop:

* The hours count is now 453.5 and 254.5 of those hours are relational. This means that I need 46.5 more hours, but since I have over 250 relational hours, it doesn't matter whether they are individual or relational.

* This past Saturday was the last Saturday that I will have to do internship hours (the weekdays are still packed). But don't get too excited, I still have a ton of school work that needs to get done before I can graduate. And there go my Saturdays.

*The (master's level) job search begins. There are lots of master's level positions advertised, however most of them are either low paying (as in I already make about that salary) or mobile. I would like a job that has a decent salary, medical benefits, and is stationary- meaning I can go to 1 place and work for 8 hours. Prayers and kind thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

*Just a warning to those I see on a weekly basis: the period between now and when I graduate is going to be EMOTIONAL. I have a lot of goodbyes in my near future and a very big and stressful presentation to give before I graduate.

* I spent about 50.00 and most of Saturday de-bugging my computer. Just a warning- if an alert from "antivirus 360" comes up on your computer (and happens to look like AVG, which I had on my computer) it is, according to spyware doctor, a rogue trojan and should be gotten rid of immediately.

*Since my last weekly post, I have discharged two clients, including the one that I mentioned a post back, successfully!!! Yay me!
